As many of you already know Laura has been in severe to extreme, constant pain for as long as she can remember. As an infant she had spinal Meningitis which weakened her spine from the get go. At the age of 9 she crushed three vertebrae in her lower back in a freak accident. And by the time she was in Highschool she was experiencing chronic and constant pain that was already keeping her from being able to live a normal life. At 20 she dislocated her hip for 3 weeks while 7 month’s pregnant that the Drs misdiagnosed. And since then she has had to deal with shooting leg and hip pain. At 25 a truck slammed into the side of her car throwing her into a ditch causing slipped disks in her neck & to this day none of the injuries have healed correctly. On top of all that, she has scoliosis and degenerative disk disease causing severe nerve damage in her neck, lower back, and Siatics. Over the years she has had on-going treatments to manage the pain as best as possible, but, has had many times that the illnesses and pain have left it hard to keep working to even doing simple everyday tasks. Also missing out on things in life she enjoys doing to even seeing family & friends, due to herniated disks, multiple times every year on top of Fibromyalgia causing many unmentioned symptoms to flair up.
The first time she was told she needed surgery on her spine was almost 20 years ago. But, her answer to that was always “unless I can’t walk at all, I can’t risk someone messing with my spine. I have kids I have to take care of.” I think she thought she could at least hold out until they were raised and out of the house at least, even if that meant being in pain every single day until then. At least she could walk. Well, while at work 7 weeks ago her body finally gave out on her. Without warning, she suddenly couldn’t walk. Her body hurt so bad all over she had no choice but to stop working again. And it has yet to get better.
So far in the last 4 weeks she has had nerve blocks done on both sciatica’s and her neck. But, she still has a very long way to go. Next, they will go in and kill the nerve endings in those places by performing a nerve ablation. Once the extreme pain from the nerve damage can no longer be felt she will then have to have the damage in her spine assessed and they will then decide what surgeries are needed to at least slow down the degeneration in her disks so they stop causing more damage. Between each procedure she must heal two weeks before the next is allowed. Which is why we are hoping to get all the help we can for her with this go fund me. As of now we know she will have been off work for three months at a minimum before she is well enough to even do part-time work. Hopefully this string of procedures will be the answer for her to move forward to a pain-free life. Or at least much less pain! I need my pain free aunt Laura back!
