On camera interviews with LGBTQ elders

Hi my name is SHAN Wallace. I am a photographer, visual artist, and filmmaker in Baltimore City. I’m actively working on a film called Glory Days that delves into the vibrant and significant history of LGBTQ nightlife; unraveling the intricate threads and interconnectedness of Baltimore culture, survival, and history. As an active member of the LGBTQ nightlife scene since I was 14, this isn’t an outsider story. Glory Days remembers the elders, the promoters, the advocates, the club owners, the teens, the adults, the moments, the partygoers, the fashions, the music, and the moments we still cherish. This film remembers the freedom of nightlife and how nightlife saved a lot of lives as it provided a safe and communal space for us to explore sexuality and sensuality, who we were, and dream of who we wanted to be. Since there was very little space dedicated to LGBTQ communities, nightlife was critical to our well being, to our lives, nightlife saved a lot of us.
We were able to film several interviews this past summer, and during production, two LGBTQ members of the elder community weren’t able to be interviewed due to health reasons. I recently received notice from both interviewees saying that they are feeling much better and enthusiastic to finally appear on camera. In order to make this happen sooner than later, I need your support.
I’m fundraising to raise money for production to finally hear from the elders on camera. I’d like to emphasize that the opportunity to interview and film LGBTQ elders is urgent as many of them continue to battle with health concerns. Their stories and recollections are important to this story but ultimately to our well being as we recognize their dedication to making the future better for all of us. These funds will pay for the production team, locations, and other expenses we have.
We’ve gotten this far, please help us continue to archive and celebrate the history of the LGTBQ community in Baltimore.
