SUPPORTING OUR FRIENDS ELAN LEIBNER AND MICHAL HALEV THROUGH THEIR TRAGEDY

The tremendous horror of the Hamas attack and murder of some 1200 people on October 7, 2023 in Israel, hit Elan and his wife Michal in a way that none of us could imagine. On October 7, 2023, their son La’or, 20 years old, was at a music festival near the Gaza border when the terrorists attacked early that morning. He was one of more than 270 people who were killed at that concert alone.

Michal and Elan rushed to Israel, at that time hoping that La’or had survived, only to learn of his death within a few days. Now, they are working through their personal grief and the grief of so many families around them. As they try to make sense of the senseless, as they grieve for the innocent civilians killed in both Israel and Gaza, they are confronting the question of what is asked of them at this time to help with the healing that is so desperately needed. As they search for positive ways to come to terms with their personal loss and their grief (see Michal’s plea for peace below), we want to provide them with the additional support to do this.

We aim to provide a supplement to their now greatly-limited monthly income for the next three months. Elan cannot continue to offer educational consulting in North America at this time. By the end of January, we hope that their next steps, including seeking ways to help with the suffering of those around them, will be somewhat clearer and plans can be made.
