One World Surgery Medical Mission July 2022
Tax deductible
Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you know, One World Surgery is a cause very dear to our hearts. On July 9th, we will be traveling back down to Honduras as a family, for another week-long medical mission. While there, Mike will be operating alongside other surgeons from across the country, including Dr. Peter Daly who founded OWS and Dr. Merlin Antunez who was an orphan raised on the ranch where the surgery center is built who later went on to become an orthopedic surgeon and medical director of OWS. Mary will be running the pre-op clinic and Marty and Jack will be doing various tasks/manual labor around the surgical center and ranch.
To give a brief background, the Daly family founded OWS in 2008 on the campus of NPH which is a large orphanage built on a beautiful 2,000-acre ranch, roughly 20 miles away from the capital city of Tegucigalpa, that is home to nearly 800 children and young adults. To date, there have been 68,000 medical consults and over 9,000 surgeries performed at the OWS surgery center. In 2021, OWS expanded and opened a new medical facility in the Dominican Republic which is currently seeing primary care patients and is scheduled to open a state-of-the-art surgical center in 2023. Although the accomplishments of OWS are remarkable, there is still so much more work to be done as there are currently over 2,000 patients on the OWS Honduras surgical waiting list alone.
We are setting up this GoFundMe to try to raise money for the surgical center so that we can help transform as many lives as possible this July. The patients that come to OWS are desperate and have no other option for medical and surgical care. The following are some examples of the impact our gifts can have down there:
$5,000 Provides three months’ salary and benefits for a local general physician
$1,000 Provides one life-transforming surgery
$500 Funds three months tuition scholarship for future medical professionals
$250 Provides 5 patients with one year’s supply of medicine to manage chronic disease
$125 Provides personal protective supplies such as masks and gloves
$50 Contributes toward the purchase of other critical supplies
We can assure you that any amount will have a direct impact to the lives of the patients and their families. We thank you in advance for any gifts that you can give. We also ask for prayers for safe travels for all the medical brigade participants from across the country to and from Honduras and for all of the medical staff, that they might be able to provide the type of care and healing that these patients deserve and desperately have been waiting for.
If you have a couple minutes to spare, please watch this video that the Dalys and Dr. Antunez have put together as it gives a glimpse into the remarkable work that is done every day at OWS-
