Emergency Medical Care for Murphy
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Sarah and the adorable floof in the picture is Murphy. Murphy is a 2 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He means the absolute world to me, he is my child, as I have no biological children of my own. I love him with all of my heart, he is truly my shadow and my best friend. What is happening to my poor boy is my absolute worst nightmare, and I will do anything in the world to save him.
On Tuesday, October 11, we were both viciously attacked by a pit bull. It's by some miracle that Murphy is still alive today. While I was able to seek medical treatment using insurance, Murphy has none and I am quickly running out of money for his medical treatment.
Murphy has wounds on his neck, shoulder, back right leg, and his entire back. His paw pads are raw in places from being dragged and thrashed across the pavement. He is currently admitted to an emergency facility and needs round the clock care for his wounds. He is in stable condition, and has a very high chance of a full recovery, as long as we are able to continue to provide him with medical care.
So far, he has had 3 procedures. His first round of surgery included debriding the dead tissue and suturing his wounds and included an overnight stay. Four drains were put in to try to keep the wounds draining properly. (Pictures, below)
We were able to bring him home for less than 24 hours before having to rush him back to the animal emergency hospital. He was in terrible pain and the skin was turning black around his wounds/sutures. The wound on his back is significant and he needed another emergency procedure. More tissue had to be removed, leaving him with an open wound measuring 6 inches wide and 6 inches long. The vet stated he will need to remain admitted and will need open wound care with wet/dry bandages under veterinary supervision. It is possible they will have to remove even more tissue in the coming days, due to infection. His outcome is good, as long as we can continue to pay for his care.
Murphy will ultimately have to undergo multiple procedures in the next several days to months. He will need daily bandage changes by a veterinarian, as his wound must be left open due to continued risk of infection.
So far, his medical care has cost us $2,952.83. The second payment - $1,679.82 was only a down payment, with an estimated total of $2,555.67 to bring him home. This estimate was given before his second surgery and only quoted for 24-48 hours of care. Now that the medical staff has had a chance to further assess his wounds, we are being told he will need continued procedures and he will need to be kept for several more days than originally anticipated. The total for this stay, will be significantly more.
Once he is released it is highly possible he will need to see a specialist for skin grafting, as they are currently unable to close his wound.
My boy has so much life left in him to give. He was attacked for absolutely no reason and unprovoked. We were just trying to get in the car to go 'byebyes', his favorite thing in this world. I am so thankful he is still with us, and fighting for his life.
I have been out of work since the incident due to injuries of my own, and taking care of my boy.
I am begging for your help and support. Every penny donated will go straight to his ongoing medical expenses and after-care. If you are able to spare anything at all to help save my little boy, I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you so much for reading.
