Building a Better Future for Our Girls Using STEM

Saving Promise is organizing this fundraiser to benefit Only 11 Minutes, a campaign to educate grassroots communities about intimate partner violence and what healthy relationships look like.

OUR GIRLS ARE BEING DESTROYED OR EVEN KILLED BY AN INTIMATE PARTNER.

Girls and young women bear a disproportionate burden when it comes to the devastating impact of intimate partner and dating violence, along with other long-term consequences, including physical injuries, mental health issues, and increased rates of substance abuse.

Shockingly, national statistics reveal that around one in three adolescent girls in the United States becomes a victim of dating violence, with the rates nearly tripling the national average for girls aged 16-19.

In addition to the immediate impact, girls exposed to such violence are also more likely to engage in risky behaviors such as unhealthy sexual practices, substance abuse, and self-harm; and often struggle with low self-esteem, lack of confidence, feelings of helplessness, and difficulty managing emotions. Those from underserved backgrounds face additional challenges due to limited resources and opportunities.

THE SOLUTION

Evidence suggests that by equipping and empowering girls with leadership skills, career development opportunities, and other resources can have a profound impact, strengthening their self-esteem, coping strategies, and the ability to determine their own paths. This empowerment gives them the knowledge, encouragement, and tools they need to not only avoid unhealthy relationships and behaviors but also to achieve wellness and social inclusion in their everyday lives.

ABOUT ONLY 11 MINUTES: GIRL'S LEADERSHIP & EMPOWERMENT SERIES

In response to the startling reality that, on average, every 11 minutes a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member, Only 11 Minutes: Girl’s Leadership and Empowerment Series, aims to educate, empower and mentor girls and young women in careers like Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), nurturing them to become tomorrow’s leaders, with an emphasis on underserved girls and young women aged 16-25.
