Onyxia - The Sparkly Floof Cat
Donation protected
Hey Everyone! This is Onyxia, my 10 year old floof cat. I’ve had her since she was 3 days old when I found her in a shoe box outside of a pet store.
On Friday, 12.1.23, my world stopped for a bit. Onyxia collapsed right in front of me. I scooped her up and rushed her to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. Everyone was taken with her immediately. One of the technicians recognized her namesake from WoW, hence “floof dragon cat” was born. He kept me in the loop, helped keep my raging emotions at bay with video game smalltalk and told me he was going to personally make her his project.
Onyxia weighed in at only 5 pounds, she had lost weight. I was assured because of her small size, it was alarming but not abnormal per se. She was severely dehydrated, lethargic and had elevated blood pressure. It was strongly recommended she stay at least 2 nights so they could continue to observe her and run tests.
I was kept informed as soon as a new test result came back. No heart murmur or abnormalities. BP regulated. Kidney and liver functions were normal. No diabetes. No pneumonia, viruses or infections. Vision and hearing perfect. So what is wrong? I was starting to get upset that we couldn’t figure out WHY. Then it happened, I got the call. They’ve diagnosed her with osteoarthritis.
I was finally able to get her almost 3 very long days later on Sunday, 12.3.23. I was so happy and depressed at the same time. I knew the emergency vet bill was going to be rough, but I was not prepared for the number I saw.
Some of you know, but I have been out of work for several months and have been struggling to keep bills paid, food on the table and secure a job in my field. The angel of a vet tech added his discount and I was able to postpone a majority of the bill. I gave them everything I had just so I could get my baby back home. However, this is not just a one and done. Onyxia will require monthly injections to manage her condition and give her a normal quality of life.
It’s true when people say pets are a part of your family.
I’m asking for help, I cannot do this alone at this moment. If you can assist monetarily, thank you. If you are unable to assist at this time, I also need words of encouragement that are equally as welcome.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. <3 Stay sparkly.
