8 year old Sharon's Medical Fund
Donation protected
An 8 year old girl named Sharon was knocked down by a boda on her way to school Monday. A second boda ran over her, breaking both arms and one leg. She has had no pain medication and the bones have not been set since then. It appears both arms will need surgery and a plate attached to the bones. No surgery should be needed on the femur and should only require a cast. Sharon did not appear fearful or distraught like her attending family. She seemed to understand what happened and what is needed. She is patiently waiting. Her family has no money ... not even one cell phone among them. They appear to be the poorest among the poor.
She was in the Jinja Main Hospital in Uganda and she has Paul and Pam Hunter of Next Generation Ministries advocating for her. Paul was able to get her moved and as of right now, Sharon has surgery at International Hospital Kampala. We are SO glad that he got her out of the government hospital (3 hour struggle) and got her to IHK. She has FIVE fractures, had some initial internal bleeding, but no bleeding in the brain. She is in intense pain. The best orthopedic surgeon in Uganda is doing the surgery at noon today and will wait for payment.
UPDATE :
Jeff Patterson, Peter Bukenya, and Paul Hunter had a long, but rewarding day (3/12/15) with Sharon. They struggled for 3 hours to get her released from the government hospital in Jinja. After not working on this girl since Monday afternoon, now that someone (with white skin) shows up with interest to remove her and transfer her to a better hospital ... well, they had to do something. They cast her arms and legs before allowing us to take her. But, once she got loaded into our van/ambulance, she was much more relaxed, even laughed. And we got a smile on her mother's face once we got Sharon in the Trauma room at International Hospital Kampala. They asked about the accident and prescribed lab work, Xrays, CT Scan, ultrasound ... just a full examination of her body since it had been run over. Five fractures have been discovered. The delay, unfortunately, caused the broken bones in Sharon's leg to start blending together ... in the WRONG DIRECTION ... and so that will confront Dr. Muballe today in surgery. Sharon was in a lot of pain, but we got her into her room in the Pediatrics Ward around 7 PM. We will keep you posted on our progress today.
A grateful heart to those who have volunteered to contribute to the medical expenses. So thankful!!!
