Open Slopes 2024
Donation protected
Open Slopes enables people of color and queer people to connect and grow in snowsports through community building and mutual aid. Together, we build power through safety, care, and play.
We are back for our third season, and we have lots to look forward to! Funds raised via GoFundMe will be used to further increase access to snowsports for past BIPOC Shred participants and intermediate/advanced riders that identify under the BIPOC umbrella by providing necessary items such as:
- Lift tickets
- All mountain boots, bindings, and skis/boards
- Backcountry gear
In addition to our regular programming, several Open Slopes community members will be hosting meetup and skill share events! We would love to have the option to support these organizers with funding for costs associated with lift tickets, educational courses, and materials.
Thanks to our partnerships with Mountain Hardwear, Fat Tire, Guayaki, and Pit Viper, all of our operational expenses associated with BIPOC Shred are covered, and we are able to gift all participants with outerwear, gloves, and eyewear.
Our BIPOC Shred program scholarship program equips Black, Indigenous, and all people of color with fully facilitated and cost-funded introductory snowsports experiences where all participants and mentors identify under the BIPOC umbrella. BIPOC Shred creates opportunities for Black and Brown folks to learn how to ski or snowboard in community and at zero cost by providing rental gear, waterproof apparel, snowsport accessories, lift tickets, transportation, and the opportunity for new riders to learn the basics from BIPOC mentors on snow. Since our first event, we have successfully hosted over 110 new riders. In 2024, we are going to host over 60 more folks through this scholarship program alone.
