Opera "Cerro Rico" at The Village Trip Festival 2025

Hello! We are Agustín Castilla-Ávila, (composer) and Herbert Mackinger (librettist).
In 2022, we finished the opera “Cerro Rico” (in Spanish with a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes) for orchestra, choir, soloists and dancers. When we started, we had a production possibility, which vanished during the pandemic.
The Village Trip Festival in New York has shown their interest in a production in September 2025. However, it is still needed 70.000 € for this huge production.
We are convinced it is a great opera and we are trying our best to help raising the missing amount of money. Every donation counts and every donation has a reward.

Synopsis:
Life expectancy: 29 years - a catastrophe that has been going on for centuries. The miners of Cerro Rico (Mineros de Bolivia) are not getting old. In desperation, they plead with their own mythological creation - Tio, the 'Lord of the Mine'. They ask him for ore discoveries and a healthy 'exit' - and still die: e.g. from silicosis (silicosis). The women look for usable ores in the spoil (see title photo): in the icy cold at 4,000 meters above sea level, often with small children at their side.
