Our meeting was truly magical and we are forever thankful to have found one another. Both having longed to be married and start a family we knew the instant that we saw one another that God had meant for us to be together. We began dating in June of 2014, were engaged in November of 2014, and married in April of 2015. Soon after getting married we began talking about starting a family of our own. Lyla was born in 2011 prior to Darren and I meeting and we longed to give her younger siblings. We tried on our own for a year to a year and a half before deciding to schedule an appointment with our OBGYN to determine why we were having difficulties getting pregnant.
In February of 2018 we met with our doctor who diagnosed us with unexplained infertility. Darren underwent testing and his numbers all came back good. I began taking medications, checking my temperatures, and continuing to attempt to conceive on our own. In the summer of 2018 I underwent further testing and found that my fallopian tubes were open which was an answer to our continued prayers. By September of 2018 we had added another medication and were still not pregnant. Following our cruise to the Bahamas we decided to try an IUI (intrauterine insemination) with our doctor here in Jackson. By December of 2018 we had tried two IUIs and neither were successful. Feeling grief stricken and heartbroken we decided to make an appointment with The Fertility Center based out of Grand Rapids.
We attended our consultation with the doctor mid-December and underwent more testing. I had bloodwork done to determine ovarian reserves as well as any potential genetic disorders that could be causing our infertility issue. All of the testing came back normal. We were again given a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. We went into our appointment with The Fertility Center knowing that we were considering IVF, completely uncertain of how we would pay for it, but 100% certain in our dream to have children as well as the truth that God provides. We both felt at peace knowing that we needed to try every viable option to have children.
After leaving our consultation we had decided to do another IUI through them as they monitor things much differently and can also provide injectable medication to force ovulation. We were set up for an ultrasound to determine if my ovaries were working properly and were producing follicles. We learned that they were indeed working and we had great growth with follicles. At the beginning of January we travelled to Grand Rapids for our first IUI with The Fertility Center.
On 1-25-19 we learned that the IUI we had completed on January 12th was not successful. Again, we are grief stricken, running low on hope, and putting on a brave face to move into another day. We will be attempting one more IUI with The Fertility Center before moving into IVF. At this time we cannot jump into IVF because of not having the money for a down payment. It is a surreal experience having to raise money to try and have a child.
We are looking at IVF as our next option if the IUI does not work. We have already spent thousands of dollars in trying to grow our family and need assistance for the daunting costs of IVF. We have applied for multiple grants and are awaiting the results if we have received the monies or not. In the meantime we are trusting that God will assist us in this next part of our adventure. He has provided for us thus far and we continue to have hope that God will provide us with the babies we have dreamed of.
We are thankful for anyone that can assist us in the journey as well.
