Operation Bobby

Donation protected
As some of you may know, our best friends dog, Bobby, has been through rough couple of weeks…

This all began when Bobby swallowed a 15cm long stick, this perforated his colon and left him in a critical condition, being given a 50/50 chance of survival.

He had an extremely dangerous surgery to remove the stick on Monday 16th May and repaired the damage to his intestines. He was sent home from the vets to be monitored at home with check ups every morning with the vet however after being watched around the clock by Tara (mum), differences were noticed in the way he acted and looked, he was very quiet, reserved and absent.

A visit to the vets and after his daily ultrasound and blood test, fluid was found in the abdomen and an increase in white blood cells indicating infection, the vet informed us that he was not responding to the current antibiotics he was on and the only way to find out what the problem was and fix it was to open Bobs back up and operate again.

This second surgery on Thursday 19th May was massively complicated and ended up being life or death. The surgery showed two massive abscesses inside his belly which had killed most of the fat in his abdomen, the abscesses and all of the damaged tissue needed to be removed before Bobby could be stitched back up. If the surgery hadn’t taken place, Bobby would have died.

After the surgery, we were told his chances were low and we needed to prepare for the worst. This was the most devastating news for all of his/ our friends and family, as I’m sure you an imagine.

He went to the emergency vets after his white blood cells were increased further indicating further infection. Bobby is undergoing ultrasounds and blood tests every day to monitor his recovery and may need to see a specialist if he doesn’t make a full recovery fairly soon.

Bobby does have insurance however his current vet bill excessively exceeds it’s maximum pay out and unfortunately, Bobbys recovery is not clear or complete yet. Many more visits to Bob’s friends at the animal doctors will be necessary but we just want to give Bobs the best chance we can.

He is loved by everyone he meets and loves all the cuddles and affection in the world, we’re not ready to lose him.
