Operation: Home Fixer

Hello, my name is Kenn Shinya. I’m the son of a badass cancer fighting, bread winner and baker, Star Trek loving, dog mom of two who is trying to make this year one of healing for his beloved mother. Let me introduce Annette Welsh.

In late February of 2022, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 Small Cell Carcinoma cancer. The cancer had already metastasized to her brain, cervix and her lungs. Needless to say, this was incredibly disturbing find for her and our family. With uncertainty in the air, we started our journeys of Chemotherapy and weekly MRI's. Still, the outlook appeared bleak.

By the grace of God, she was selected to participate in a clinical trial for a new type of Immunotherapy. This therapy has been a gift for us as she has been responding well with some improvement. However, the cancer has returned ever so slightly in her brain once again. Her doctors and team seem to treat this again in hopes of healing one of three hot areas in her body. But this journey continues to be a long, physically and emotionally exhausting one.

My goal, is to raise funds to help stabilize her living situation for her and my sister who lives and takes care of her. She works full time from home but at times, has little to no energy to do so effectively and sometimes, the medical bills and treatments take a toll.

With your help and donations, I hope to reach a goal of roughly $25,000. These funds would go to things like medical costs, monthly bills, expenses and house care. The latter being important for her mental health as the house has fallen into disarray both inside and out. We hope to use some of the funds to fix things like her bedroom and bathrooms which need the most care. This is also important for her physical health as her immune system has become weakened over the years.

Her strength is our strength. As a family we feel so helpless in a battle against an evil we can’t even see. But we are determined to make any positive impact we can. We won’t give up.

My mother is a very humble woman and has never been able to ask anyone, not even family for help without feeling a burden about it. This goal is so important for me, not just for bringing a little stability to her life but also to show her that she is not alone in this battle. She is my greatest hero in my story and anything I can do for her with help from this community is greatly appreciated.

God bless.
