Operation: Play Chess - Travel Sets Fundraiser

Chess Vets is a veteran-owned 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2016. This work is done entirely through our uncompensated employees, aka volunteers. Our mission is "to improve the opportunity for all, especially veterans, to learn, play and enjoy the game of chess". We host tournaments, workshops and clubs. We ran programs aside VA Recreational Therapist at VA hospitals, VA Vet Centers and CRRC (homeless vets).

 

We started this nonprofit because playing chess can dramatically change lives for the better. Our founder, Michael Lenox, was severely mentally impacted by a major stroke. Chess was introduced during his therapy at the VA hospital, which aided his mental clarity immensely. He still plays daily to remain focused.

 

As a part of our Operation: Play Chess directive, we donate personalized magnetic chess sets to deployed US Troops. Each set costs us $3.50 to produce and $1.00 to mail. We present the sets and shipping fee to HelpUSATroops.org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that then places them in their "care packages".

 

We have donated 1000s of sets, in the past, to our troops.

 

100% of the donations that we receive will be used to help veterans through Operation: Play Chess. This is our promise.
