Operation Relocation -Hen Haven Here We Come!
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Catherine Kelaher, founder of NSW Hen Rescue, a sanctuary dedicated to the liberation, rehabiltation and rehoming of ex-battery hens and other factory farmed animals. Since founding the rescue in 2010, my husband David and I have worked to provide a haven for animals rescued from desperate circumstances. Our desire to bring about change and our belief in animal liberation drives our mission every single day.
Over the years, we've rescued thousands of animals, but we've also faced numerous challenges. Since 2010, we've had to relocate eight times, facing the insecurity and upheaval each move brings. In 2020, we were offered a lifeline - a five-year lease at a rate we could afford. We thought we had finally found a place to call home and we built a hen haven for our hens and other rescued animals.
Fast forward to today, and we're facing the prospect of moving again due to circumstances beyond our control. Our landlord is selling and we need to move on. We're not just moving ourselves but also our beloved animals. Just this past year we have rescued hundreds of individuals including Annie and Buster the pigs who were saved from the pork industry where they were destined for the gas chambers, Liberty the ex-laying hen who escaped a slaughterhouse all on her own, Basil and Rosie who were liberated from a rabbit meat farm, and Isy and Belle who were rescued from an intensive egg farm. These animals have been through enough, and they deserve a permanent, loving home where they can live their lives to the fullest.
When we first found out we would be evicted we felt hopeless and overwhelmed, but after receiving many messages of support, we have hope. We have used our small deposit to buy a 10 acre property to be the rescue's forever home. We will be able to create a safe home for our animals, where we can continue to show the world how farmed animals deserve the best care and love.
However, we can't do this alone. The costs of moving the animals, all our sanctuary materials and enclosures 730km is quite overwhelming. We are fundraising to help with these moving costs and to help us build the new enclosures to keep the animals safe and happy.
Although yet another eviction is making for a stressful time, we cannot give up on the animals. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to give them the life they deserve.
Please, donate to our crowdfunding campaign. Help us relocate NSW Hen Rescue and create a hen haven where we can continue to rescue, heal, and care for animals in need.
