Operation Rescue Leigh
Donation protected
Those who know Leigh understand that, as a single mother to 16-year-old Brooke and Blaine, Leigh is accustomed to always putting the needs of others before her own. Her devotion to feline rescue has saved over 1,500 animals via Compassion for Cats of DE, and countless more by connecting individuals in the rescue community. Leigh is also humble and very private, so this post is difficult, but she needs our help.
Leigh was recently diagnosed with Stage V Chronic Kidney Failure, aka End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). She’s in treatment and preparing to start dialysis, as she waits for a living kidney donor. Leigh is determined to win this battle, and your financial contribution will ensure that she has the support and medical care to do so. Leigh is not able to work due to the physical demands of her treatment plan. As you can imagine, the costs associated with this illness are endless, and we are called as a community to come to Leigh’s rescue.
Equally as important, please also consider testing to see if you are a match for kidney donation. Your participation could ensure that Leigh receives the kidney she needs. Join us, and volunteer to test as a live donor for Leigh. More info will be forthcoming on where and when to test.
For those who will certainly ask, doctors have not confirmed the cause of Leigh’s ESRD. She never slows the pace of her life and work, so there were no clear onset signs as the disease progressed. In January, 2021, she was hospitalized with what seemed a routine case of anemia, likely caused by a newfound health regime. Unfortunately, that was not the cause. After multiple transfusions, doctor visits, repeat hospitalizations and second opinions, the diagnosis has been confirmed.
Leigh will continue to do some small-scale rescue work, to keep her mind and hands engaged. We will keep friends and family updated on her recovery. We hope you will respect the family’s privacy during this scary and overwhelming time, and not bombard Leigh with texts and messages.
