Operation Targeting Stress
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hope. Operation targeting stress is a three phase project that will address all of following key points:
- Constructing a safe and accessible outdoor archery range at Camp Robert Lewis.
- Hosting three one-day training events were any local community members can become level one archery certified.
- Hosting a community day event for anyone (not just Girl Scouts) to learn about the mental health benefits of archery and participate in a fun light hearted competition.
Overall Goal: Improve mental health in high school and middle school students by promoting outdoor activities like archery.
Context: Fast-paced society and high expectations cause significant stress, particularly in large city school systems like Columbus, Georgia.
Target Group: High school students are at the highest risk for mental health issues and suicide.
Current Issue: Many students use electronic devices to cope, which is counterproductive and leads to bottled-up emotions.
Solution: Outdoor activities, especially archery, provide a healthy outlet for stress and emotions. Archery provides focus, relaxation, and physical activity, reducing student stress.
Challenge: A lack of resources and training for a safe and accessible outdoor archery range and events. Not enough local knowledge of the serious threat stress imposes on a teenager’s life.
Thank you!
