Opossum Summer Exhibit

Tax deductible
The Southern Vermont Natural History Museum has been providing educational experiences in New England and eastern New York since 1998 and has become well known throughout our region for affordable quality Science and Nature programming.  One of the most popular aspects of our programming is the live animals.  Education programs featuring non-releasable birds of prey, native reptiles and more help build connections to the natural world with over 20,000 people each year.

This year we have the unique opportunity to do something never before allowed in Vermont!  We are working closely with Fish and Wildlife to create a permit and standards of care and programming for non-releasable wild mammals.  This pilot program will be focused on three handicapped opossums whose mother was hit by a car. (You'll meet them below)

We have indoor facilities built to house them over the winter (opossums are very susceptible to frostbite) but would like to build an outdoor exhibit for the warmer months.

If you are able to help out we would greatly appreciate your donation.

As an incentive, we would like to offer the three largest single donors or donor teams naming rights for these cute little guys!
If you are going to team up, either donate together or let us know who is helping you get the opportunity to name one of the first education opossums in Vermont!

Two conditions:  #1 No offensive, derogatory or socially unacceptable names will be allowed #2 Troublesome names, "Possum O'Possum-face" for example, may be retired after one year at the discretion of the Education staff and volunteers.
