Killough Community Association represent locals who wish to oppose a massive biomethane plant in the heart of the Golden Vale. Please support us.

Roadstone is seeking planning permission to build and operate a bio-renewables production facility incorporating anaerobic digestion at Killough Quarry, located between Holycross and the Horse and Jockey. The planning notice was published in the Irish Daily star on January 13th and a decision from Tipperary County Council Planning office is due by March 9th. The public can make submissions until February 16th – the planning reference number is 2560019.

Roadstone have proposed building a massive biomethane plant inside Killough Quarry which will process 105,000 tonnes of waste per year Just meters away, explosives are being used to blast limestone rock.

Thousands of tonnes of waste will be transported to the plant each year via narrow country roads that are unfit for this purpose.

A massive underground water aquifer (lake) is located beneath the quarry which stretches from the Horse and Jockey to Cashel. This is a karst landscape meaning the water is especially vulnerable to contamination.

The plant lies just 4 km from the River Suir which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation. This plant is located in the catchment area which feeds the river.

Killough hill is covered by natural woodland which is home to various protected species. It is a proposed Natural Heritage Area. This vulnerable woodland is just meters from the proposed biomethane plant.

The primary school at Gaile is 1.5 km from the proposed plant.

Killough quarry is clearly the wrong location for a biomethane plant and building at this location, causing pollution and health and safety risks.
