Hello I'm Dr. Toomey Rasmussen. For the past 10 years I have done Oral Health Education in elementary schools in Lee County. This year with the help of the Heritage Institute's dental assisting student volunteers we will teach over 1000 students about oral health.
We focus on healthy foods for your teeth, how cavities are formed, and brushing instructions. The Lee County schools that participate in this program have the majority low socioeconomic status students who are at the most risk for dental disease.
It is vital that we provide each student with a toothbrush, toothpaste and an educational pamphlet to bring home. Many of these students have never been to the dentist and do not own a toothbrush.
Your donation to the Elementary Oral Health Education event will be used to provide each student with a toothbrush and toothpaste. The education events will take place throughout February and March 2016 in Lee County schools.
Lee County does not offer dental services at their health department and there is no city oral health initiative. It is up to the dental health professionals that practice here to educate our community. Any donation large or small would be greatly appreciated.
