Dear friends of the Orbit Room in Toronto and lovers of live music.
Two weeks ago I explained the strained financial position that closing the Orbit Room due to the pandemic put me in and I launched a GoFundMe campaign asking for your help with the debt I face.
I am truly humbled and amazed by the overwhelming response. I thought long and hard about asking for help at all. Reluctantly, I decided to set my goal at $15,000 thinking that we would probably never reach it.
But the response was swift and clear. Almost 200 people have donated more than $24,000. I am DEEPLY grateful. This relieves a huge pressure I've been feeling.
We reached our goal in 6 days and surpassed it.
The truth is that my original goal was just a fraction of what I actually need- which is $40,000. So I am setting my new goal at $30,000. I f we hit that goal , I will raise it again.
Once again I am eternally grateful for your support and hope that we can all enjoy a great night of live music at a new Orbit Room
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support
Its been an entire year since the Orbit Room was closed due to Covid lock down. It was a drastic but understandably move to keep us all safe.
At the time I thought that after closing for two or three months we would reopen. I wasn't too worried about how I was going to pay the clubs bills even though we had lost 100% our our operating capital. I couldn't have been more wrong. Three months has now turned into a year with no end in sight. It may be 2022 until we see the return of live music clubs.
Those debts are now a year old and have to be addressed. I have applied for all the loans and grants offered to help small businesses but, to this date I have not received any financial help from any level of government.
I'm the sole owner of the Orbit Room and have been for 10+ years. For 23 of the 25 years we were open we had a live band play 7 nights a week. We prided ourselves with running a club where musicians got treated with respect and got paid well for their talent and effort.
Closing the club left me with considerable debt and no way to service it. For the Orbit to move forward to a new location or a concert setting, some old business needs to be taken care of. It is because of this , with all humility , that I am asking for your help.
Please share this on your Facebook page and on other social media. Thank you in advance for your support.
