Oregon City Supports Houston

Donation protected
As you probably know, when Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas as a category 4 hurricane, it caused catastrophic inland flooding in the greater Houston metro area. Houston is only one of the many areas affected by this horrific storm, and there are many other areas in need of help and much needed supplies and cash donations.

I remember when I was 6 and my dad, a firefighter, and 3 other firefighter friends made a trip down to Mississippi in 2005, after hurricane Katrina hit. They drove our truck with a borrowed cargo trailer loaded with donations and supplies and drove straight through to the Mississippi Gulf coast. When they arrived, Katrina’s flood waters had receded, leaving an unimaginable mess in her wake. They were only able to stay 2 weeks but they helped with the gutting of and cleanup efforts of various homes and a grade school, as well as tarping roofs, replacing a wheel chair ramp, removing trees from homes, etc.

After seeing Harvey’s destruction and massive flooding on the news day after day, I knew that I wanted to be part of a similar mission and I convinced my dad to do it again. So here we are. My dad and I, along with a fellow retired firefighter friend Mike Wilson and hopefully one or two others are committed to making the trip down to Texas, and or Louisiana. We are stuffing our two horse slant load trailer full of donated supplies, along with our own tools and equipment and we are driving down south with a target departure date of Friday, September 8. We are going to work hard and get dirty.

We will be taking our own tools, such as pressure washer, generators, power tools, wheelbarrow and hand tools. We will also bring camping equipment.
Our mission in starting a GoFundMe is to raise enough money to assist with fuel expenses, purchasing and donating additional supplies after we arrive, lumber, tarps and such to try to help people salvage what is left of their homes. Any monies left over will be distributed by us personally to families, individuals or organizations that we feel will benefit the most in that specific area. It will not be used to purchase our meals or accommodations, as we are prepared to camp in a Walmart parking lot if need be.
We are asking for your donations to help us help at least a few of the unfortunate people of Texas or Louisiana. Your donation, no matter how small, will let those people know that people from as far as Oregon do truly care, and support them when their lives have been turned upside down.
