Oroville High School Football Program
My name is Coach Lee Papa. I am the new 2022 head football coach for Oroville High School. I attended OHS and played football here in the late 90s. I have great memories of this school and the athletic programs and I cherish my years at OHS. I want my players to have the same opportunities I had. I want the very best for them, our program, school, and the Oroville community.
Last season the OHS football program went 0-20, and it finished with less than 35 players. This was the worst season in its history. Covid has been hard on this program. It has yet to fully recover. Our football practice facility has more than 100 years of history and it shows its age. We are rebuilding our program in many ways. This year we have invested much time and energy in our players and the new vision for OHS football. This vision has become a process. Starting with the players and academics.
Academic success is essential. We never give up on our players. Starting in April we held study hall after school, counseled players individually, set goals, and communicated non-stop. We communicated with the students daily and the parents weekly. Through this process, our players achieved academic success. When we started the after-school study hall we had several potential starters academically ineligible. All of them are now eligible to play football this season. They worked hard and deserve the credit, I am very proud of them.
We have also reached out to NFL stars and local leaders/mentors to speak to our players. We believe that teaching principles of life through the game of football is key to our team's success/culture and for long-term individual success. Today our football program is excited, energized, and working hard to restore excellence in 2022. We have taken that excitement into the community and held youth football camps for FREE, and had more than 100 campers attend. The players lead the way. They became mentors and heroes that day.
Now we are preparing for our upcoming 2022 season. The team is practicing hard and we have goals. These goals need your support. Please join us and help our program by donating what you can and please share this message with your friends. We hope that through this fundraising channel we can launch our vision and start creating new Tiger traditions and memories.
All donations are made directly to the Oroville High School Athletic Booster Club. Together we plan to improve our 100-year-old practice facility and provide essential needs (equipment, supplies, and materials) for our football program and players.
I appreciate your time.
Sincerely.
