Osgoode Street Tenants' Legal Defense Fund

Smart Living Properties is planning to evict low-income tenants from a rooming house in the Sandy Hill Neighborhood of Ottawa. They are evicting us in the middle of pandemic, in order to renovate 4 buildings and rent out rooms for a higher price. They've even told us that they intend to double or triple the price of the units after renovation.

We have tried to negotiate with Smart Living, to have us shuffled to one building during renovations, and then back to our apartments after renovations, but they have refused to do so. Thus, many of us are staying in our apartments in order to keep some of the few remaining affordable apartments in Ottawa. 

Fighting a landlord is not cheap. In order to fight these evictions, please donate to our legal defense fund. We need to protect affordable housing in Ottawa, and fight predatory landlords who are willing to push low-income tenants out of their rooms during the winter.
