Ottilie's epic bike ride

In September 2018, our youngest daughter Ottilie was born, and, unbeknown to us, she was born with a rare condition, PFFD. Our lives were turned on their heads when we were told, after an X-ray on the day she was born, that her femur (thigh), was about 30% shorter than it should be, and that it was likely the rest of her leg and hip would be affected too.

PFFD affects her hip, femur, and knee, and means she will have lots of operations and treatment throughout childhood. Her first major operation was a full hip reconstruction 2 years ago, after which she was placed in a cast from her tummy button down to her feet for 4 weeks. She has recovered amazingly, and continues to blow us away every day with her determination.

I remember when we found out about PFFD, I spent most of that first night in hospital googling manically, and was so relieved to find Charities such as LimbPower, seeing children born with the same condition, happy and enjoying a full life.

LimbPower support amputees, individuals with limb difference and their families to bridge the gap between hospital rehabilitation and community and school engagement to rebuild lives and improve physical, social and mental well-being. Their support is invaluable.

We’re so fortunate to be going on the ICanFamilyCamp at the end of May, Ottilie is so excited to get involved in things such as canoeing and paddle boarding!

The camps were created to meet the need to support children and young people with an amputation or congenital limb difference on their life-long rehabilitation journey. They also include siblings, Ottilie’s brother and sister are her biggest cheerleaders, its so special that they can be involved in the camp too ♥️

To raise money for Limbpower, Ottilie is going on an epic bike ride on the 25th of May, riding from Dunford Bridge through to Penistone, and back again. This ride will be around 10 miles, a lot more than she has ever done before, and no mean feat as a 5 year old!

any donation to this brilliant charity would be warmly welcomed,

thank you,
