Our 1.5 yr pup was viciously taken away from us- Heartbroken

Donation protected
Hi. My name is Jennifer and my family (Including my surviving pup) and I are in living in hell and are so heartbroken that my tear are streaming out of my eyes right now as I am typing this.

The evening of July 18th, 2024 is one day I will and can't ever forget. What started off as a normal evening walk with my 2 boys (my pups and I will always refer to them as my boys) ended with one of my boys being viciously attacked on our way back. I live in Mississauga, Ontario Canada. My boys and I were just walking up a pathway back to my street, when we got to the top of the path, I noticed a older couple with a large dog (which was confirmed to be a king corso mix) to my left, at that time they seemed to be correcting a issue with the dog. I had proceeded to cross the street instead of attempting to walk by her. We made it across the street and only managed to walk a few feet when one of my boys (Jasper) growled, when I went to look to see what he was upset about, the corso was already half way across the street. I attempted to pick my boys up but in my attempt the corso latched onto my other boy Milo and wouldn't let go. No matter how much I tried to pry his jaws, I couldn't. Some point during the scuffle, Jasper got out of his harness and started running home. Thanks to 2 women, they managed to keep him on the path back to my house to get my mom. Neighbors and bystanders and even drivers stopped and rushed to help. So many good hearted people tried so hard to help me and my Milo. Finally being able to get Milo away, it took 3 people to pin the corso down while I was helped to get Milo's bleeding slowed. Another woman drove me to the emergency clinic while others on the scene were calling for help (9-1-1, animal control)
Milo was seen right away, and while in treatment the doctor did come and speak with myself and my mom, he had brain swelling, low heart rate, high blood pressure and a severe wound that even if was a sure thing, would have been a truly long and probably painful recovery with no promise he would be ok. Before 10pm that night, we had to say goodbye to our baby boy. He was our sunshine, loved his people, always happy, could be stubborn but he was part of our family. Not only did we lose him, Jasper lost his brother and they were inseparable. Our family is crushed, heartbroken and absolutely disgusted as this was preventable as the walkers weren't even the owners, have been issues with this dog in the past and with this apparent history, the actual owners should have done better with its choosing of that dogs caregiver as much as the caregivers knowing they couldn't and probably shouldn't have been looking after this dog! I will link a discussion that was happening on the media site Reddit with comments about this particular dog as well as another one in the area to show that this shouldn't have happened. Milo didn't deserve this.

My family is trying to hopefully raise some money to help us with his medical bills and with getting some legal assistance (The retainer alone is $2500 ) to help go after the caregivers and owners to face some sort of justice. It will not bring Milo back to us but if we can do something to possibly prevent this animal from going after another animal or even a child, and to make the owners and caregivers see that their actions and decisions do have consequences

I do thank every single person that was there with us that evening on the road, those that were calling for help, those that helped Jasper get safely home, the woman that drove me to the clinic, those who stopped to help and all the messages and well wishes that myself and family received. I am forever in your debt and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My faith in humanity has been restored. Thank you!

Milo is on the left and his big brother Jasper. They would have been sharing their birthday together, turning 2 years old on November 8, 2024
