Malakai's Fight Against DMD - VEHICLE
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Georgia and Rob and we are raising funds to help with the future needs of our little boy Malakai who at the age of 12 months was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, an incurable disease with a limited life expectancy.
It certainly is not something we expected to find out about one of our children.
It has been hard to hear what his diagnosis is, especially not knowing much about it at the time. Looking at our boy, he was just a normal little toddler learning to walk and falling down as most toddlers that age do. We’re still learning so much about DMD all the time as we watch what it does to Malakai.
Found by mistake in which we received a phone call telling us someone needed to talk to us about our sons blood test result from 4 months prior, we were told it looked like Malakai may have a fatty liver, and were referred to a liver specialist.
In that appointment we were told Malakai was okay but they were doing further tests and would call us with another appointment by the end of the week. Friday afternoon 4pm I got a call from the liver specialist telling me our son had muscular dystrophy. When I asked what that meant, her words to me were what we were about to go through is very scary. I got off that phone call saying No, No, No while I searched on google what this diagnosis meant.
The funds we are raising are to help us with purchasing a vehicle for when the time comes that we need a wheelchair accessible car. NDIS will help with any modifications however not the vehicle. Being a single income family with 4 young children, this is something we cannot afford on our own and need your help.
Any additional funds would be used towards making Malakai's dreams become a reality the best we can.
Living with this chronic grief and the idea of losing your child is not an easy one to live with. However, this is our journey ahead with Malakai and our 3 other children.
Thinking of the future is scary, so while we try remain in the now we are wanting to raise these funds with plenty of time ahead of us to keep us in the now as much as we can and enjoy the little boy we still have.
Thank you for you generosity, we are very appreciative for any donation and hope if anything we have raised awareness of DMD.
Much love
