Our beautiful Mother deserves the world

Hello. My name is Monica Cole. On April 13th, 2023. I received a tragic call from my sister, Donna Cole. Our mother's husband had rushed her (our mother) to the Emergency Room with stroke like symptoms. After running tests, they transferred her from her hospital close to home to Florence, SC to be evaluated further by neurology. Sending a week in the hospital there and countless MRI's and CT scans,a very large tumor was found on her left side of the brain. Immediately affecting her speech and some use of her right sided limbs. They performed a biopsy during her stay and when the results came back, A malignant Glioblastoma Multiforme.
She was then able to be released to go back to her home and resume care with Oncology in Loris, SC.
After discussion with family on her further care. My sister, Donna decided to take FMLA from her career and become her full-time caretaker. Her treatment plan consisted of 6 weeks of at home chemotherapy 7 days a week, along with radiation at a center 5 days a week. All was looking well when Mom started to resume movement of her fingers in her right hand, and speaking more clearly than usual!!
A few days later, 3 weeks into treatments, Mom started complaining of pain in her right leg and her foot was swollen. Donna immediately took her to the Oncology and they performed blood work and noticed her platelets had dropped significantly, to the point of an unsafe position to continue chemotherapy. She was then sent home. They next day, June 15th, Donna rushed her to the emergency room. They performed an ultrasound on her leg and found multiple blood clots. Do to her lack physical strength and the aggressive progression of the tumor. The recommendation at this point is to halt all treatments and begin into Hospice Care..

Althea Cole, our mother turned 70 years old back on March 11th, 2023. Throughout her life she has been most loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister and aunt you could ever imagine. She has given so much love to Donna and I and our children over the years and has also gained a whole blended family through her husband and partner of 10 years, Jim Salter. She has always been willing to be there for anyone who ever needed assistance around her. And cared for everyone!!!
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story. These past couple months have not been easy and as we navigate the rest of the time with her, we can do nothing but give her all the love and support she deserves.

My GoFund Me is to assist in her and her husband with her final days of care, funeral, and celebration of life costs.
