Our beloved David Evans

Aloha mai kākou,
My name is Piʻikea Matias (niece to David) and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the Evans ʻohana.
On Sunday, March 26, 2023 I received a phone call from my mom just as I was about to go to bed. She told me that Uncle Dave had been involved in a “hit and run” and that he was in the emergency room. She said that he had mass bleeding on his brain and that he would be medevaced to the Queens Hospital.
When we arrived at the Wilcox emergency room, we were brought into the family room to wait. Shortly after, a nurse came in where we were met by a doctor and another nurse. She said that they were keeping him “comfortable” on sleeping and pain meds. Then we were met by hard truth and devastation - there wasnʻt anything they could do to help him because the damage on his brain was just too much. None of it was functional. It didnʻt make sense for them to send him to Queens because it would just make his condition worse. The doctor gave him just 12 more hours to live..
He was moved into the ICU early the next morning, Monday, March 27th, 2023, where we waited for him to pass on his own. He was surrounded by his family as we held his hand and said our goodbyes to his physical body. He was a victim of road rage. Two vehicles were witnessed speeding through Kapaʻa town on Kukui St. Uncle Dave was an avid walker of the town as he chose not to drive but to enjoy walks instead. It makes me wonder… If he would still be alive today had the reckless drivers not chosen to be angry and violent with one another. His loving and kind spirit lives on through his two daughters Kaeli and Emily.
Uncle Dave was a simple, honorable, peaceful, humble and hardworking man. He made new friends where ever he went and truly enjoyed all the small things in life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and enlighten a bad day. He loved playing his guitars, listening to awesome music, cooking, playing with puppies and being in the company of his family and friends. We will miss his contagious laughter, jokes and presence very much.
All proceeds will go to funding his celebration of life and any other expenses for his daughters. We appreciate all of your positive mana, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
