Dear friends, colleagues, and compassionate souls. I’m reaching out to you with a hopeful heart to share the story of our dear friend and colleague Michael Berryman. Michael isn’t just your average Park Ranger. He’s the epitome of kindness, humor, and unwavering positivity. He consistently goes above and beyond to make park visitors feel welcomed. He truly is an asset to have on our team.
Have you ever heard of the saying that some of the most troubled people smile the brightest? Unbeknownst to many, behind Michael’s bright and infectious smile lies a battle that he’s been courageously fighting for quite some time. This battle includes living with a chronic health condition that causes him pain, fatigue, and discomfort on a daily basis. daily. Despite countless doctor’s visits and medical test, a diagnosis remains elusive, leaving Michael and his family gripping with uncertainty for the future. In addition to his physical constraints, the emotional and mental toll caused by this mysterious illness has been equally as challenging for Michael. Despite these challenges, Michael has faced each day with strength and an attitude of gratitude.
Recently, Michael's illness forced him to be out of work for an extended period of time without pay, leaving Micheal’s wife Andi to shoulder the burden of being the sole breadwinner. While superwoman Andi has been doing the best that she can to maintain her family, she also works a part time job, is in school to pursue her master’s degree, leads the school PTA, while simultaneously being an amazing mom to her and Michaels young child. As you can imagine, the financial strain on Michael and his family has understandably become overwhelming.
That’s where the kindness and compassion of our community comes in. While we might not be able to heal Michael from his physical condition, a wise man once said that "A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal." I remember fondly the kindness that Michael and his family extended to me when I was sick and out of work last year. Both Michael and his wife Andi were there for me to offer comfort, support, and prayers when I needed it the most. They were there for me when I was afraid, alone, and uncertain for my own future. Now, I need your help to help them.
Together, as a community, we can help to make a difference in Michael’s life by helping to alleviate some of the burdens that have currently been weighing heavily on his family. Our goal with this GoFundMe campaign is to raise $5000 to help assist Michael and his family with daily living expenses and the mounting medical bills that have and will continue to accumulate until Michael’s condition improves or resolves. Every contribution no matter how big or small will help to ease the financial strain and bring a glimmer of hope to Michael and his family during this challenging time.
As we come together to support one of our own. Let’s show Michael and his family the same compassion and generosity that they have shown us time and time again. Your kindness will not only provide financial relief, but it will also serve as a reminder to Michael and his family that they are not alone in this journey. That their community is here to support them. That we are rooting for their recovery, and that they are loved.
Thank you all from the depths of our hearts for considering supporting Michael and his family. Your generosity will no doubt make a world of a difference in Michael and in his family’s lives. With sincere gratitude, Courtney Davis.
