Our brave Alby

One month ago our beautiful Alby was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He and his family (including older sister Callie (3y/o), younger brother Hugh (8 weeks old), and parents Matt & Eliza) face a challenging couple of years ahead in their fight against blood cancer. The support for the Lewis’s has already been overwhelming and they are very grateful to everyone who has sent them messages, cooked a meal or run an errand. They are currently staying in the Ronald McDonald House so that Alby can be close to the hospital and we are very thankful for the generous donations people have made to those of us doing the “Walk Me Home’ event to support this wonderful organisation. Lots of people have also asked how they can support the Lewis Family directly to help ease the financial strain while one or both parents are off work. This is going to be particularly tough for them over the next 6-8 months while Alby is in the intensive part of his chemotherapy and too immunocompromised to lead the normal life of a toddler.

There are still many unknowns going forward but whatever support we can give them will make a difference in one way or another- at the moment the most pressing need is Albys 3am hangry steroid induced requests for ‘Donalds’ that is only satiated by 2 large chips and nuggets.

A few people have put their hand up to shave their head in support of Alby for each milestone we reach:

$5000- Tim and Daniel will be the first off the ranks

$10,000- Brandon & Dom - in a fight for the favourite uncle title, these two are going to give up their luscious locks (although it is rumoured they were overhead discussing that a short shave might stimulate some growth along the edges)

$15,000- Paul and Richard- despite not having much hair left on their heads, there is a real risk it might not come back ever again so lets do our best to push these two over the edge
