A few of us friends are trying to raise some money to help Speed. So... Why am I trying to raise money for Speed? Well it is best if I take an excerpt from Speed's Facebook post to help give an explanation;
"Multiple contusion around eye, head and back of head area. Small spot of blood found on brain they said should not be concerned about it, broken jaw in two places mouth wired shut with two plates put in my bottom jaw and two to three broken ribs on the left side....shout out the UNM staff that took great care of, I'm doing well Nadine taking good care of me other than that that's.... it.... I got blindsided I really have no clue who did it but this is the result I'm in lots of pain but I'm good I'm alive and I'm going to keep it moving hope you all have a blessed day .....peace"
On Saturday (04/28/2018) night Speed was working at Canvas Artistry as he does almost every Saturday. A scuffle broke out outside of the bar. Speed being Speed went to help diffuse and deescalate the situation. While he was trying to help bring some order he was brutally assaulted in the ultimate display of cowardice. Please read above to get a good understanding of the magnitude and severity of the injuries that our brother Speed sustained as a result of being blindsided. What happened to him was nothing short of tragic. A person of Speed's standing in this community did not warrant this spineless act.
Speed's family and friends are shocked, saddened and angry by what has happened. I believe that if we all take this energy that we have and use it to do what Speed has asked us to do (Speed's Words below):
"I don't need retaliation and I don't need revenge .... what I do need is good vibes and healing energy. Things happen in this crazy world and I don't want to add to the chaos nor do I ever want to wish harm on another human being. ... so, with this being said .... I know there is a ton of my people that are ready at my word to get busy .... and I appreciate the love .... but I am asking all of you to please stand down now step back and turn that energy into good energy not just for me, but so something like this is prevented from happening again .... nothing but respect to all my brothers ready to put in that work .... I love you for that .... but let's work on keeping the peace and moving in the right direction ..... mad love yo .... let's unite .... and keep it moving ...... love yall ..... peace."
With the injuries that Speed sustained he will be out of work for a while. Since Speed is an entrepreneur and a small business owner he does not have the sick leave that one might have with a "normal" job. So we need to come together and help him raise money for his; medical expenses (HIS PRESCRIPTION FOR ANTIBIOTICS ALONE WAS $500.00 +), He still has hospital bills, His living expenses (Speed is the sole bread winner for his family) without work the revenue stream dries up instantly.
Speed does a lot for his/our community. He regularly donates his time and energy to raise money for kids who need to travel for sporting events, for sick children, for people in need. He has donated his time, energy, equipment and his larger than life personality countless times for countless beneficiaries. He hosts his annual horse shoe tournament where the proceeds go to a charitable cause. I am sure that we can go on all day describing instances where Speed gave his time and energy to a charitable cause.
In closing Speed did not deserve what happened to him. He was doing what Speed does... a good thing. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. This is one of those instances. I ask that you please help Speed get on his feet. We are not asking you to break the bank. $5.00, $10.00, $20.00 whatever you can do will be appreciated. Speed needs us. Let’s be there for his like he has been there for us countless times.
