'Our Country'- Film MA Final Project Short Film
Donation protected
My name is Andrew Mulligan, the writer/director of this short film 'Our Country' which is about a young guy named Scott, who's eager to make a good impression on his new girlfriend's Dad, John. He accepts an invite out for a drink after the match with John and his two friends, who reveal themselves as quite stereotypically old-fashioned xenophobes. Not until Scott gets the opportunity to speak with John one on one does he realise there may be an ulterior motive for his invite out. As Scott seeks an initiation into his girlfriend's family, John appears to have a more political initiation in mind, as he explains to Scott the 'truth' about the country he's growing up in.
This film delicately tackles themes such as racism and nationalism, exploring a side to this country rarely explored thoroughly. With the strong support for right-wing political parties in the UK, as shown by the 4 million+ votes for Farage's Reform UK Party in the last general election, these issues are still very prevalent. What this film attempts to explore is how these attitudes metastasise, especially across generational gaps, ensuring these prejudices continue to prosper.

Thank you so much for taking the time and any donations will go such a long way in making this film happen. Please leave your full name if comfortable so I can credit you on the final film!
