This project functions on a simple truth, YOU, the people make York what it is.
We are a community interest company, Kaizen Arts Agency , and we collaborate across sectors with lots of different people, organisations and businesses.
We run projects in York that address Social, Environmental and Economic injustice, and we want to enable citizens to participate, in a way that works for them, to collectively shape a future that we all genuinely believe in and that we have autonomy over, as a community; to make decisions, have a voice, and challenge injustice through creativity, ideas and innovation.
These projects need funding somehow.
We have set up this page to crowd source some money which will be used to fund what we believe to be ideas for 'Good Change', as seed funding for people who need it, who are capable of, and have the drive to take action and make a difference.
We already have some initiatives on the go, you may know about York Design Week and OpHouse - this funding will go towards making these initiatives happen, but we won't stop there.
We are in the early stages of creating a physical space for citizen led, cultural democracy - an impact lab in the city centre, which aims to transform how we work, live and play, city wide. We've set up two co-working spaces to help retain talent in the city, were working with graduates and young people on projects like Art is My Career, and with MATT+FIONA on a design and build project with school kids across York.
You may also know about York Creatives and Drawsome! who we partner with, we're launching Open Lunch soon which aims to get freelancers eating and talking with each other on their lunch breaks. We also we want to support groups in the city who's work we see makes a difference - like Bright Young Things, SLAP, The Crescent, the Guild of Media Arts, The Supper Collective, Young Thugs, Arts Barge, Spark, York MCN, Good Organisation, YoCo, YorSpace and more the list is endless...
Ideas and creativity are everywhere and everything in this city, and we have been talking about creating a central pot for a while now that could act as a distributor to enable Good Change without boundaries, and to facilitate and empower good people to do what they are good at.
We want to do some fun, creative and purposeful things with and for the people of York, and we thought it would be cool to set up a funding pot that could enable that.
Your donation will directly fund making York a better place to live, for everyone, and we want you to hold us to account on that, we have an open book policy for our spending and income, and we are looking at ways to measure impact of our actions such as the thriving cities index both as an organisation and in a wider context, as part of the ecosystem that is our society.
When you donate (£1 minimum, no maximum ;) you are also invited to submit an idea, which you can do by filling in this form . Every month we will review the current ideas bank and choose an idea to work on as a team. You're invited to help make ideas happen too - oh, and feel free to use any of the ideas from the bank, you can view the bank here .
Once you’ve submitted and donated, please share with 7 people. The whole idea works on the power of our relationships - without the invitation from you, the ideas won’t grow. With loads of love, Kaizen Arts.
