Help our family get back into our home, our caravan.

Hi my name is Ali and I’m fundraising to go towards a deposit to get us back into our little home on wheels, after we lost our full payment to the Tango Caravans liquidation.

Our story begun when we made the decision to sell our family home on the Sunshine Coast QLD in 2022 to purchase a caravan and follow our dreams of travelling Australia with our 3 boys. In Feb 2024 we had been travelling for nearly 2 years when we made the decision to change our caravan set up and were in contact with Tango Caravans to get a quote. We received what we thought was a good deal from them and in April 2024 we made the decision to pay a 10% deposit and lock in a caravan build with them. We were told it would be an 8-10 week build so at that point we decided to put our current caravan on the market. We knew that we may be without a home for a couple of weeks and we accepted this. Our old caravan sold quickly so we had to pack our whole life into a shipping container and drive from South Australia where we were, to QLD to stay with family for a bit and also short term accommodation.

We were advised at the end of May that our chassis had arrived and our van was in production and to book our handover date, we would need to pay our final payment. Naively and emotionally we paid our full payment to Tango Caravans thinking we would be in our new little home in 2 weeks time. Unfortunately however, after we paid our full payment, just under $80,000, we were completely ghosted and mostly ignored. Our calls and emails went unanswered or if we did get to speak to someone, we were told they would call us back with information, they never did. This went on for weeks and weeks and in that time we were spending so much money on short term accommodation and having to move multiple times while basically living out of the back of our car. We then learned in August of 2024 that there were others that were having major issues with contacting Tango Caravans and then we were given the devastating news that the company had gone into liquidation taking all our money with them. We were absolutely shocked and heartbroken as this was our home and after calling all the manufacturers, we learned that none of them had our caravan build on their books, no one even had a chassis. Our caravan was never intended to be built.

We have since now learned from the liquidators that the company was trading insolvent since March 2023! Our payments were basically used to pay off old bad debt that the company director had built up over the years. We were left completely heartbroken again and there is no chance of recovering one cent of our hard earned money.

As we were now left homeless, we had to scramble to find a rental for our family as we had no other option. We have been very lucky to have a place but the owners have now sold our place and we are now being forced to make a move again. we have decided to try and get back into another caravan but having lost so much money and spending so much money on short term accommodation we have spent most of our savings so we are hoping your generosity will help us towards a deposit for a van while we get finance for the rest.

We are slowly coming to terms with what has happened but it has been an incredibly emotionally and mentally draining couple of months since this happened. Our plans and dreams were completely stolen from us and we’ve had to make some difficult decisions working out what is best for our family.
