Sadies journey to a kidney

Hey everyone I wanted to share as much of an update as I can. We are nearly a month in since receiving her diagnosis and starting on this journey. Life has been crazy since that life changing day but everyone seems to be adjusting as well as we expected!! We have had one ER/overnight stay due to a migraine and blood pressure. So far she just doesn't handle the dialysis as well as I had hoped. Her blood pressure gets high and her head will hurt and of course she's exhausted. We have adjusted meds and are waiting to see improvement. We had our meeting Wednesday so I am anxious to see what more they can tell us. As far as lifestyle changes we just have to stick to a low sodium/potassium and phosphorus diet. It's been had to grocery shop basically the less processed the better and if it says low sodium or even no sodium more often than not the potassium is high so it's a lot of label reading and learning what to look for. Still no fluid restriction so she can drink as much as she wants but mostly water no dark soda and "sports" drinks are a no go as they are high in both sodium and potassium more often than not. Dairy is also one we are to stay away from as much as possible which is fine we already basically did that with all my littles having an intolerance to it. She cannot get her HD catheter wet at all so bathing her is a chore and washing that long beautiful hair but we are figuring it out. I'm sure when this girl reaches transplant time the first thing she will want is a long hot shower!! So far still not sure how far from that goal we are. We have been good with making appointments and keeping her meds taken on time. Both are important for when they decide she can be active on the list. Anxiously awaiting that day. We appreciate all the love and support we've been given. I can't thank any of you enough for being here for us for something so unexpected. We still have a long road ahead so please keep the prayers coming. With school starting this week I'm even more anxious to see how this goes and hoping and praying it's a great school year despite how that looks for her. She's one strong little lady and we love her to pieces. ❤️
Hey there!! As some of you know just over a week ago we received devastating news for our Sadiebug. We went to the ER for what originally was diagnosed as constipation and after labs soon found out was far worse and actually end stage renal failure due to CKD. How we made it 13 years...healthy normal years is still a shock but this is our new normal for awhile. We have been in the hospital since and I have been off work. I hate to be asking but the reality is she is going to have a long road ahead and I will be by her side every step of the way. I will be working as much as I can but she will have dialysis 3 times a week and at some point a transplant and I am asking for help for the time I will need to be off for her care. Prayers are also needed as this has been a lot for her to take in. She's been strong and in great spirits but I know as things go on there will be hard days. I want to thank you in advance for any help we receive whether it be financially or prayer. I will update as I can!! We are hopefully heading home today but I know this journey has only begun.
