Our Fight Against AML

Our names our Jim and Maureen Smith and this is our story....
"You have Leukemia.
And will require a Bone Marrow Transplant."

With those words our lives have been changed forever.
Jim was diagnosed with AML on September 6, 2016. After numerous rounds of chemo, numerous hospital stays, blood and platelet transfusions multiple times a week just to keep him stable, a bone marrow donor was found and he was ready to go. Our prayers were being answered.
Four short days before transplant, my husband relapsed. His body is now rejecting all platelets, chemo is not working and radiation is no longer an option. We are not sure what is in store for us. Jim has been at University of Michigan hospital for a month. In the past 5 months since his diagnosis he has been in the hospital except for two weeks. The Bone Marrow transplant is currently on hold and we are awaiting results of the latest bone marrow biopsy to determine the next course.
I needed to be with my husband and have exhausted my personal time as well as my FML, so as of today, I have had to resign from my job due to the unstable nature of my husbands condition. I have tried with everything that is within me to be everything that he needed...caretaker, breadwinner and household runner but cannot do it on my own. The more overwhelmed I have become. Jim and I only have each other to get through this. After all these months, the medical expenses are a starting to add up and that is why we are setting up this page. Any donations given will be going directly to medical bills and expenses.
