This Go Fund me account is for our friend Bonnie, and her journey with her daughter’s critical health issues over the past year. After years of gastrointestinal issues without a diagnosis, Bonnie’s daughter Kelly, 28, was hospitalized in January with a perforated bowel. The emergency 7 hr surgery re-sectioned her intestines to alleviate the perforation before Kelly went septic. The perforation was caused by several bleeding ulcers that literally corroded through her bowel. The surgery saved her life but it did not give answers as to why the ulcers were happening in the first place.
Kelly was living in Hawaii when this first surgery occurred and as soon as she was stable Bonnie moved her back home to Texas. This was just the beginning of a year long pursuit to find a diagnosis for what had been plaguing Kelly for years.
It was only a month after her return to Texas that Kellys symptoms returned and another hospitalization was needed. This time the surgeons had to undo some of the intestinal work done in Hawaii. So another major surgery. But still, no diagnosis as to the cause of her issues. Over the summer Kelly was in and out of the hospital numerous times. Finally, in September, a specialized nuclear scan was brought in and found that Kelly had pancreatic cancer. Kelly is now hospitalized again at Brooks Army Military Hospital in San Antonio awaiting her 3rd major surgery in less than a year. She is expected to be in the hospital for the month of November and Bonnie will be there with her. Bonnie is a single Mom and sole care giver to Kelly. When Kelly is hospitalized or needing home care Bonnie cannot work, and she only gets paid when she works. While FMLA covers her absences, she is not able to use sick time as it is time off for her daughter and not herself and she is now draining any savings she once had. While her priority will always be the health of her family, the extra stress of keeping her head above water financially has been overwhelming for Bonnie. Many of her friends have reached out to help and she is forever grateful for the village that continues to send love, prayers and support. Bonnie has never wanted to ask for financial help, but as her coworkers and friends, we know her financial struggle should not interfere with her care for Kelly. We created this with love to help her along during this critical time.
