Our Friend Lana Negrete in her Breast Cancer Fight

Dear Friends and Family of Lana,

My name is Karly and I am helping to plan and organize efforts to support Lana. If you know Lana, then you know that Lana has given to her community unconditionally for decades. Her family music businesses and non-profits have supported the most vulnerable and now she needs your support.

After years of sluggish health and searching for answers, on February 9th Lana was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Surgeries, chemo, radiation and holistic therapy have all been scheduled. The bills have begun and although grateful for health insurance, it will not cover everything.

While in treatment Lana will not be able to fulfill her many roles. We are planning to utilize ride share services, assistants and community to allow complete focus on her medical journey.

As a California elected public official Lana is bound by FPPC rules for fundraising https://www.fppc.ca.gov/learn/public-officials-and-employees-rules-/gifts-and-honoraria.html. All elected officials are prohibited from accepting gifts from any single source in any calendar year with a total value of more than $590 except for limited circumstances.

Acts of compassion for illness is considered a limited circumstance and therefore an exception to the $590 donation limit! This means you can donate whatever you can to support Lana. However, in an abundance of caution, if you plan to have business in front of the Santa Monica City Council within the next 6-12 months, Lana will need to recuse herself from voting on your item if a donation is made over the amount of $590.
