Our Friend Melissa O'Brien

Our friend Melissa was recently diagnosed with cancer for the second time in two years. Her first diagnosis was for appendix cancer, which she beat, but now she is facing a battle with breast cancer that has already spread to her lymph nodes. Her diagnosis is HER2+ cancer, for which there are a wide array of treatments available.

Melissa’s current insurance will cover most of her treatments, which as of now involve six chemo sessions, one every three weeks. As those who’ve undergone chemo treatment know, an outcome is almost always loss of hair. Her specific treatment will result in hair loss. Not only mentally devastating, but it can be very painful as well. There are solutions to that available - known as cold caps - but most insurance policies won’t cover them.

We are raising funds to cover the cost of cold caps as part of Melissa’s chemo treatments. We are looking to raise $3,000.00 for Melissa. This should cover the cold caps and a little extra for other things she might need during her treatment. Melissa is an amazing and loyal friend to many, and we would like to help her maintain some semblance of regular, daily life while she goes through chemo treatment.
