Our friends in Myanmar need help!

The ongoing pandemic, and the recent military coup, have badly damaged Myanmar’s wonderful tourism industry and many of those worst affected are simple family run businesses that supply goods and services to hotels and tourists – such as rickshaw drivers, horse cart drivers and boatmen.
In Myanmar, where the majority of the population is categorized as low-income, many people have became jobless, and consequently incomeless, since the start of Covid-19 pandemic. Added to this, the military coup that took place on 1st February has ensured that there will be no quick return to tourism and a previously dynamic economy. The result is that some areas, such as world-famous Bagan, have little or no income and little prospect of getting back to a reasonable level of income anytime soon as domestic and international travellers continue to stay away.
As a result of this crisis, we have been in discussion with our partners in Myanmar and we have started this fund-raising page as a means of offering support to the low-income workers of Bagan. We hope that with the assistance of our friends and partners we will be able to forward funds to our local team who in turn will ensure that this money goes straight to supporting low-income workers in Bagan with a donation of essential food & supplies.
Your donation will therefore go to providing basic food requirements for around 330 households of rickshaw drivers, horse cart drivers and boatmen in and around Bagan. A typical food parcel will contain 10kg of rice, 1 litre of cooking oil, and 10 eggs as well as other household essentials such as garlic & ginger. The average costs for each parcel is US$11 and this will go a long way to feeding families who are in desperate need at the moment.
Our friends in Myanmar really need your help, so please donate what you can and help to raise a smile or two at this critical time.
Thank you.
