Our Home was destroyed in the 2022 Aus Flooding
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Chandra and I come from a small town called Nimbin in the Northern Rivers on the east coast of Australia. The house you see in the photos is the house I grew up in and the house my parents helped build over the last 20 year. Despite decades of love and care that built it into a home where my late brother, step sister and I grew up, it was destroyed overnight in the same intense rain that caused widespread flooding and Lismore's worst flood in 500 years.
My 60 year old mother was alone inside when it happened, and was injured when the roof collapsed. She managed to crawl through a broken window and out through the scene you see in the photo, through mud and over broken trees before reaching my stepdad who was battling to reach her through the rain and fallen trees on his way back from work. He got her to hospital in time for her not to die, and she is now in a somewhat stable condition awaiting a helicopter transfer to a bigger hospital for urgent surgery.
What this Gofundme is for is immediate necessities, my Mum's medical procedures costs, food, water and rebuilding our home.
My parents will recycle whatever they can from our home and rebuild what they can by hand however as you can see the damage is extensive and the whole house will need to be re-built from the ground up. Unfortunately we were unable to insure against this kind of event. It will cost tens of thousands possibly hundreds of thousands to rebuild, especially getting materials and labour to a rural area.
I appreciate anything that you can spare that could help support us in the extremely hard time.
The front of our home.
This use to be the front deck where we would sit and watch the sun set over the Nimbin Rocks.
