Our Journey with Eric Nelson

Eric Nelson. Some of you know him personally and many of you do not. He is as giving and dedicated as they get. Outside of working a full-time job and supporting his family, he is also a mentor to local youth. Encouraging growth and skills required to be successful in life. What most of those reading this don’t know is that he is a fighter against cancer.

Eric is a son, brother, friend, but most importantly, he is a husband and father. How do I know him? My little sister Crystal has managed to catch his eye and between the two of them they’ve created the most beautiful, sweet, and handful of a little girl, Grace.


Back to Eric’s story. What he thought was a simple injury caused while roughhousing with Grace (I already warned she’s a handful ,right?) a doctor’s visit turned out to be much more. Blood tests and multiple scans showed there was something more destructive, cancer. Something no one in their 30’s could possibly imagine dealing with. What they found out next was that it has spread to his lungs and chest. The silver-lining? His brain scans have returned with negative results. On March 4th 2023, which should’ve been a day for them to be celebrating their 5th Wedding Anniversary, Eric was rushed in for surgery, removing what cancer affected areas they could.

Journey. This is why we ask for your help. Eric is now home with his family but their road ahead is still unknown. Continuing with more scans and testing they will start his Chemo treatments immediately.

What does your contribution do? Although they have protected themselves with health insurance there are many things that are not covered. Crystal is a Special Needs teacher at a local high school and will be taking off what time she can to be by his side during treatments while Eric will not be returning to work any time soon. Every dollar will be used to help cover travel expenses to and from Miami, help ease basic bills like mortgage, groceries, and extended childcare. The goal is to allow them to focus on Eric’s health and recovery, not how are we going to afford this?
