Dahlia Asher Ranft Baby/Fire damage
As many of you know, we have been blessed with a baby girl, due August 14th, 2018. The day we found out her sex, we were also informed some horrific news about her heart. She has been diagnosed with 3 heart problems, 1: a hypo-plastic aortic arch and coarctation of the aorta, 2: a ventricular septal defect (VSD), and 3: an irregular value.
For most of you who don't know what these problems are, the first one is a major issue with the arch that pumps blood to all your major parts of your body, (arms, legs, and brain) and our daughters is too small to complete this task. A VSD is a hole in the heart that needs to be patched. both of these issues are major and will need to be fixed.
Within the first 5-7 days of birth, we endured the first, of possible many, major open heart surgeries so our daughter can live. With this surgery, we risk major brain damage, or even possible death of our little girl. These surgeries will be performed in Edmonton's Children's Stollery Hospital as well as labor will also be in Edmonton. We have been told that we will be there at minimum 2 month, with the posssibility as long as 3 or 4. As many of you know, we live in Calgary and Cory (Dahlia's father) will have to drive back and forth every weekend to see his daughter in the hospital. As gas prices soar, it is estimated that a trip to and from Edmonton and the drive to the hospital every day, will cost $150-200$ every weekend just in gas alone. With me living in Edmonton for this period of time, we will be trying to juggle two living payments, as well as hospital parking, and to add gas to this situation is going to be hardship with unbelievable stress, that no one should endure while trying to be with their critical child.
We have looked into every option to try to help but this seems to be our last resort. We hope that reading this you can understand some of the struggles we have had to endure already, of not being able to experience the happy first baby experience and that we still haven't even come to the hardest part. This fund will be needed by mid or end august so please share our story and help us raise our goal so Cory can spend as much time as possible with his partner and newborn daughter, giving us hope and strength.

AS OF MARCH 30 we have been in and out of hospital, in more than out. We experienced a scare in January and got emergency flown to Edmonton for an unexpected heart surgery. We are now facing our SECOND open heart surgery, third heart surgery since birth, and our little girl has been fighting like a champ. We are in high hopes our surgery is successful, but it has been very tasking as we have had to leave Calgary and stay in Edmonton for the month without Cory, her daddy. This second open heart is as major as the first and will be fixing leaks in her heart as well as a coarctation that formed after the first surgery. We have been just making ends meet and it has been very hard on all of us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully you are able to help.
