Our little man's fight to beat brain cancer
Spende geschützt
Hi my name is Kelly and I'm fundraising for my 14yr old son Brodie.
On the 25th July Brodie went to the hospital after not feeling to well at school, after almost 8 hours of waiting the doctor hit us right to the gut telling us our poor baby boy has a plum sized brain tumour. They packed him up and transported him to the children's hospital where a neurologist came and saw us and decided we would organise surgery at the end of the week. The next morning Tuesday 26 July
The head of the neurological team and leading surgeon came by with another blow. It's more like the size of an orange and it can't wait and he will have surgery that afternoon & It will take between 6-8 hrs.
Just over 10.5 hrs later he came out the other side. His since been diagnosed with
Brain cancer called 'Medulloblastoma'.
His recovery hasn't gotten off to the best start with him being struck down with
'cerebellum mutism'
(completely mute and non verbal) right now we occasionally get a slight thumbs up or hand squeeze. No one can say if and when he will start talking again.
He may have to have more surgery as the tumour was so large and has wrapped itself around the cerebellum part of the brain and brain stem and the risk to get to it all is far too high. After this he has got to go through lumbar punctures, radiation and chemotherapy treatment.
We're looking at 9-10 months of treatments and rehabilitation which unfortunately has to be done in Sydney before we can begin to really start any real recovery and get back home to normal life and living which means a very long stay in this hospital and until his verbal and motor skills return were on 24hour full on assisted care and support to help him along his healing path.
Any help received is greatly appreciated and will go towards anything brodie needs on his road to recovery and assist in travel and accommodation expenses. Any unused money raised will be donated to Ronald Mcdonald house and Sydney children's hospital cancer centre.
Thankyou all for the love and support.
