Our little Miracle, Grant

Donation protected
“The NICU rollercoaster is a step process, many forward and many backward moments.  Witnessing the determination of a premature baby, fight for life with each breath they take, is life changing for the parents and those around them.”

As many of our friends and family members know, Joe and I have been on the journey of adoption for almost 9 years now.  We knew in 2008 that for us to have a family with the sounds of little feet pitter pattering around we would have to adopt.  2008 was the year that I was diagnosed with cancer and it left me unable to conceive, there would be no miracle story of becoming pregnant despite the odds, no eggs retrievable for surrogacy, it is just not possible for us to have a biological child.  On December 19th, we received the phone call from our adoption agency that we’ve been waiting for, the only bit of information we had was that the baby was a boy, weighed 3 pounds, was premature at 31 weeks and was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  We quickly got our bags packed and purchased one-way tickets to be by his side.  Since meeting our little miracle, we have named him Grant, a strong name for the strong little boy that he has been.  We have been staying at a hotel close by and renting a vehicle since traveled over 1100 miles and little time to get here.  Anyone that has been where we are knows that adoption is

expensive, with that in mind we saved as much as we could, but with a baby in the NICU our stay away from home, away from work is going to be over 60 days.  The cost of a hotel, rental car, food and gas for that 60 days is staggering.  We are not a wealthy couple, we are just a couple that would love nothing more than the joy and love of a child and provide them with a loving home, to hear that pitter patter of little feet and to feel that sense of pride as we watch him grow and become his own person.

As we are writing this, it has been 22 days since that amazing day, and we are starting to feel the strain on our finances, to say the least.  Between the plane tickets just to get here, hotel, rental car, and our food (and lots of coffee) during our extended stay, our credit cards are getting up there.  We truly hope that you are able to support our dream come true of becoming parents!!!

To anyone that does donate, thank you from the bottom of our hearts…
