A Mother’s Fight, A Family’s Plea: Help Us Honor Elizabeth Delgado’s Final Wish

A Much needed Update: Currently march 17, we have updated this link from the last time and want to thank everyone who donated and supported my mom during this difficult period.

We didn’t want to erase all the help you have offered, so we kept the balance the same, but after 2 years we are starting again fundraising again from $0 (3/17/23)

Updated savings as of 3/23/25: $472
Goal : $15,000

Your kindness helped her survive 2 more years than the doctors thought. She is a fighter but now we have decided to start planning ahead even though our hope is high.

On March 23, 2023, our world changed forever. Our mother, Lizbeth Delgado, was diagnosed with advanced stage four metastatic cancer. It started in her bile ducts and spread aggressively. She fought with everything she had—enduring countless treatments, switching medications, clinging to hope. Some worked for a while. Others failed. But she never gave up.
On February 26, 2025, we received the news we prayed we’d never hear. The cancer has continued to spread. Her tumors are growing, her lungs are inflamed, and breathing has become a struggle. After a private conversation with her doctor, we were told that if this final round of chemotherapy does not work, we may have only months left with her. We’ve been advised to start preparing for hospice care. (For those unaware, hospice care means focusing on comfort, on easing pain—it means we are running out of time.)
Our mother gave everything to those around her. She was the kind of person who opened her doors to anyone in need, made sure no one went without, and filled every space with warmth, laughter, and love. Whether it was a home-cooked meal, extra clothes, or simply a place to feel safe—she gave selflessly. On holidays, she wrapped gifts for friends who had no family, making sure no one was forgotten. She was our rock. Our protector. Our best friend. And now, we’re asking for help to give her the dignity she deserves.
Because she had to resign from her job at the DMV, her life insurance policy was terminated. This means that as we face losing her, we are also facing the unbearable reality of not having the funds to honor her one final wish—to be buried. She has always been adamant that she did not want to be cremated, and it is our mission to ensure that her wish is fulfilled. But the costs are overwhelming.
We are humbly asking for support—whether it’s through prayers, sharing your memories, sending pictures, or, if you are able, making a donation to our GoFundMe. Every single dollar will help us give our mother the farewell she deserves, ensuring she rests peacefully. Even the smallest contribution will make a difference.

*Any remaining donations will be given to cancer charities, such as the American Cancer Society and Stand Up to Cancer, to support families like ours—those who are battling, hoping, and praying for more time.*

Lizbeth’s 49th birthday is on May 6, and we are holding on to hope that we can celebrate another year with her. But we also want to be prepared, so that when the time comes, we can focus on grieving, on holding each other up, rather than scrambling to find resources.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you. Thank you for the love, the prayers, the support, and for standing with us in the hardest battle of our lives.
With love, The Delgado Family (Nadia, John, Akilis, and loved ones)
