Our Olympic Dream

Hi Everyone,
I really just wanted to take the time to write this and make it as personal as I can. For those who have read my book about my skating life story, FINDING THE EDGE, you probably have a good idea what my life is like; however, as you can tell things have changed. In many ways things have changed for the better. I made the Olympic team. It's everything I've ever wanted. It's everything I've ever dreamed of. It's truly one of the main reasons why I work so hard every day. I want to be able to experience like lifelong goal experience with my family; but there's a tiny issue, financially getting them all there, especially my parents and my brother is extremely difficult.
In countless amount of way, I seriously wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my family. I could be the hardest worker and the most talented skater in the entire world and still not be able to achieve my goals if it wasn't for them. My parents are my everything, they have taught me so much and support me in every way possible. I'm not gonna lie, this journey wasn't easy at all whatsoever. Most of it was my fault, I've had to deal with so many injuries that really made me question whether or not I can or should continue to skate; but another part is my brother, Jeffrey. He had actually stepped on the ice at the same exact second I stepped foot onto the ice, but he never found it as fun as I did. However, later on as I got more and more competitive he found this sport intriguing and begged us to let him skate. Our journey was just beginning then.
Fast forward a couple years, and here he is as an ice dancer, almost a whole foot taller than me. Although we don't train at the same area, the limited time we do spend together on the same ice we cherish immensely. But, as different as our journeys are, one thing remains the same, the cost. Whether doing singles or ice dancing, the financial cost is just as demanding. It's been a struggle. Skating is quite the expensive sport and we have all made many sacrifices for my brother and I to chase our very similar dreams and goals. I have been lucky enough to achieve a lifetime goal of making the Olympic Team, but in a way this is only the start. I'm hoping that the money raised here can help my with my training and get my family to PyeongChang with me to support me as much as they can. I'm really hoping that my brother will be able to come with me and share this experience with me as well as many of my close family members from Taiwan. For those who know about my jade necklace, it is one of the main reason I wear it around my neck 24/7; it not only "protects" me, but it reminds me of home and my family from Taiwan. Growing up, I had spent the majority of my childhood in Taiwan, thus I'm extremely close with my grandparents and relatives there. Having the majority of my family there at the Olympic Games would be absolutely amazing. It would mean the world to me.
Your donation regardless the size would truly mean the world to us. We are eternally grateful. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my story and visit my page. I truly appreciate it all very much. Sending you guys all our love and positive energy!
Thank you all so much,
Karen Chen
