Our Puppy Needs New Hips

Donation protected
This is Koda. Only seven months old, he is a happy puppy who loves to play with other dogs and stir up trouble. Although he is new to this world, he has quickly stolen our hearts and become our best friend.

At just a few months old our wonderful puppy began to show signs of lameness in his rear legs. Only weeks later he was so sore he was unable to walk up stairs on his own. Fearing an injury, we got little Koda to his veterinarian as soon as we could. Not long after, at just 6 months old, Koda was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia.

Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition occurring in dogs where their hip sockets are not large enough for the ball at the end of their femur. Because of this, Koda experiences pain, trouble playing, is at serious risk for dislocation, and ultimately will develop painful arthritis in his hips leaving him immobile. We have had numerous X-Rays taken of Koda’s hips and spoken to multiple experts to confirm that the best course of action for Koda is total hip replacement on both sides.

This is where Koda needs your help. Total hip replacement is an expensive surgery, with considerable recovery afterwards. We have received numerous quotes, finally concluding that the cost will be $5000 per side, plus taxes at 13%. A grand total of $11300. We want what is best for Koda, and we will do everything in our power to make sure he lives a long and fulfilling life.

Total hip replacement is a safe surgery, which often brings dogs back to 100% mobility, ensuring they live pain free for the rest of their lives. Koda is otherwise healthy, and we expect that if we can afford this surgery, he will enjoy a long life full of treats and love.

Please consider donating to help Koda get the treatment he needs before he develops debilitating arthritis.

We promise that we will put every dollar raised towards Koda’s surgeries. We also promise to do our part by donating to animals in need whenever we are able.

Below are more photos of Koda, a copy of his most recent X-Ray, as well as an information package which explains the costs listed above.

Thank you for taking the time to hear Koda’s story.

Warmly,

Malcolm & Meaghan, Koda’s parents.
