Our Super Hero - Dexter John

Donation protected
Hi, I am Brenda Flaherty, and I am fund raising for my nieces, Megan and Karissa Rhyne and their family of 4, as they navigate through up coming medical expenses for their youngest child, Dexter John.

Dexter is 2 years old and has multiple medical issues that include Autism, Athetoid and Dyskenetic Cerebral Palsy, Central and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Immune Dysfunction Parasomnia, Dystonia, Paroxysmal staring spells, Cyanotic Breath holding, Orenpharangeal Dysphasia, Spasticity, Choreoathetosis, Sialorrhea, Cyclic Vomiting syndrome, Hyperkinetic Movement disorder, Macrocephaly, and Gross motor delay. He is also G-Tube dependent.

If that is not enough for this young super hero he also has a Genetic disease that the doctors are still struggling to determine.

He is facing surgery(ies) to address the sleep apena.  Because of his genetic issues sedation is very risky for him.

He is currently in the hospital due to issues with the his stomach contents not going into his intestines. While in the hospital they have found several more concerns and he has gone from 7 daily medications to 12.

This sweet family is looking at numerous trips to Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC which is a 4 hour drive (one way). Along with the added travel expenses (gas, car upkeep, hotel, food) they will also be receiving more medical bills. Being that Dexter will be seeing specialists the bills will be more than this family can handle.

They have already exhausted all their savings on Dr appointments, medications, and medical equipment and supplies needed.

Dexter's situation is very dire as he is extremely medically fragile.   His condition is progressing and his team of doctors have exhausted their abilities.  Duke Medical Center is not a desire but a necessity to find the root of Dexter's condition and prayfully save his life.

This is one income family; the primary income is wages of a school teacher. As you know our school teachers are grossly under paid.

My niece was diagnosed with MS and Fibromyalgia when their first child was born. This diagnosis took her driver's license. Their oldest child (Damian) was diagnosed with Autism when Dexter was born. Damian has therapy sessions to address his Autism. Dexter is currently in Therapy for Feeding and occupational. Their life is already full with Dr appointments and Therapies 5 days a week. They depend a lot on our family for transportation so Megan can continue to work with minimal time off.

Against our families wishes my niece often puts her own health needs on the back burner to make sure her sons are getting everything they need to live their best lives.

Any donation amount is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Funds received will go towards:
Medical Bills
Medications
Travel Expenses, gas, car upkeep, hotel and food.
Household upgrades to accommodate wheelchair usage and safety measures that may arise.
